An additional 31 plaintiffs have come forward alleging they were sexually abused by urologist Dr. Darius Paduch at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center or Northwell Health.
The complaints allege that both hospitals received multiple complaints about misconduct by Dr. Paduch yet failed to take any action to protect patients from his predatory behavior.
“Each week we seem to get a call by someone who complained about Dr. Paduch to one of these two prominent hospitals, but their complaint was ignored,” said Mallory Allen. “The indifference these hospitals showed their patients is shocking, particularly given most of these complaints happened in the past decade.”
The first lawsuit against Dr. Paduch was filed in December of last year with another five filed in February of this year. In April, Dr. Paduch was indicted on four counts of unlawful sexual activity with two minor patients.
We believe that Dr. Paduch may have abused hundreds of patients, most of whom have not yet come forward. Most of the lawsuits have been filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which temporarily suspended the statute of limitations for adult survivors of sexual abuse. Victims must file their lawsuits against Dr. Paduch by November 23, 2023.
“Paduch preyed on patients who sought care and medical treatment for sensitive issues and when they were at their most vulnerable, lying on treatment beds in hospital rooms,” said Mallory. “NY Presbyterian and Northwell Health ignored the concerns of patients and their own employees, and enabled Dr. Paduch to abuse patients with impunity – and we will fight to hold them accountable.”
