What You Need to Know about the Recall of Juratoys Children’s Activity Tables
On May 25, 2023, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall of two models of the Janod Sweet Cocoon Activity Table manufactured by the Juratoys US Corp. for children 12 months and older. This article provides information about the recall and how PCVA’s product liability attorneys can help.
Why were the Janod Sweet Cocoon Activity Tables recalled?
The Janod Sweet Cocoon Activity Table recall occurred because the product contains a silver metal bell, which can detach from its metal arch. The bell is small enough to pose a choking hazard to young children.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, products intended for use by children under 3 must meet small parts regulations to prevent a choking hazard. The commission considers a small part to be “any object that fits completely into a specially designed test cylinder 2.25 inches long by 1.25 inches wide that approximates the size of the fully expanded throat of a child under 3 years old.” If a small part fits completely into such a cylinder and the product is intended for use by children under 3 years of age, the product is banned.
Where and when were the tables sold?
The Janod Sweet Cocoon Activity Tables were sold between February 2020 and December 2022 for between $65 and $83 by Nordstrom and Crate and Barrel stores nationwide; online at Amazon.com, Maisonnette.com, Nordstrom.com and CrateandBarrel.com; at other specialty toy, gift, and bookstores nationwide; and in catalogs. About 5,080 of the tables were sold in the U.S. and about 1,030 were sold in Canada.
How can you identify the recalled Juratoys tables?
The model numbers of the recalled tables are J04402 and J04411 and can be found on a label on the underside of the table. The two models are relatively easy to identify. The rounded triangle, wooden table measures about 21 inches wide and 18 inches high. The other model is round and measures about 22 inches in diameter. The tables are multicolored gray, pink, blue and white. The tabletop toys and activities, made of wood and metal, include a grooved track for vehicle play, a bell arch, a bead and wire maze, a shape sorter, and gear and stacking activities.
What do I do if I purchased one of these Juratoys activity tables?
Check the serial number to determine if the table is included in the recall. If it is, do not allow a child to begin or continue using it.
