New York-based PCVA attorney Lucas Franken adeptly navigates some of the most weighty and substantive legal matters on behalf of victims of childhood sex abuse. He litigates cases under New York’s Child Victims Act and the Adult Survivors Act, which aim to give survivors of sexual abuse a chance to seek justice and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
Lucas is passionate about his practice and profession, acknowledging the influence of familial ties on his decision to pursue a legal career. His late father served as a versatile trial lawyer, spanning roles from prosecutor to defense attorney, culminating in a judgeship. His mother practices personal injury law in their native Ohio. Reflecting on his formative years with relatives, including an uncle and sister who practice law, Lucas recounts a milieu of legal discourse and experiences, such as observing his father’s trials.
Today, Lucas finds fulfillment in fostering the human element inherent in his work, which culminates in achieving justice for his clients. Drawing from his background in competitive sports, Lucas embraces the adversarial nature of litigation, viewing each case as a dynamic challenge. Throughout the process, he remains fully aware of the sensitive nature of these cases and his client’s emotional needs.
While acknowledging the importance of empathy in understanding clients’ experiences, he underscores the necessity of maintaining a professional role focused on providing legal assistance. Lucas believes it is important to compassionately support clients by diligently pursuing their legal objectives and advocating on their behalf. Moved by their stories, he remains steadfast in his commitment to effectively represent their interests.
Lucas’s journey to PCVA grew from professional curiosity and an alignment of values. While already engaged in similar work involving sex abuse cases, his interest in PCVA was piqued when encountering the firm’s representation of plaintiffs in New York. Upon further investigation, Lucas found the firm’s attorneys prioritize high-quality legal advocacy and clients’ well-being. The firm fosters teamwork for the collective benefit, making the law firm of PCVA a great place to be.
In the broader legal community, Lucas is a member of the Associate Board of the Young Lawyers Division of the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers. In this capacity, he assists in lobbying for legislation that benefits trial lawyers and their clients, such as New York’s proposed Grieving Families Act.
