Dr. Mark Mulholland is accused of serially sexually abusing over 100 patients over more than a decade.
His suspension follows more than 18 filed lawsuits and 10 formal complaints to the Washington Department of Health
RICHLAND, WASHINGTON – This week, the Washington Medical Commission announced it has prohibited Dr. Mark Mulholland, an OBGYN accused of sexually abusing over 100 patients in his care, from providing any medical treatment to women until it finishes its investigation into allegations that he engaged in sexual misconduct with female patients.
The Washington Medical Commission’s suspension of Dr. Mulholland follows more than 18 sexual abuse lawsuits and 10 formal complaints filed with the Washington Department of Health, including many that allege Dr. Mulholland committed heinous crimes as a result of alleged negligence by Kadlec Regional Medical Center, where he worked. According to those allegations, Kadlec was made aware of multiple complaints that Dr. Mulholland was sexually abusing his patients, but Kadlec failed to properly investigate the complaint and failed to protect its patients from him.
Mallory C. Allen, an attorney with Pfau Cochran Vertetis Amala PLLC who represents more than 45 women who allege that Dr. Mulholland sexually abused them, released the following statement regarding the Commission’s suspension of Dr. Mulholland:
“We welcome the Washington Medical Commission’s decision to bar Dr. Mark Mulholland from treating women while it investigates allegations that he sexually abused his patients under the guise of providing OBGYN care. I am proud to represent many of those women, including those who allege they complained about his misconduct and were ignored by the hospital where he worked, Kadlec Regional Medical Center. Our clients have filed more than 12 lawsuits against Kadlec and we will be filing more in the near future. We believe the decision to suspend him from treating female patients is the next step in acknowledging his misconduct and holding those responsible liable for enabling his misconduct.”
The complaints against Dr. Mulholland are the latest in a disturbing national trend of medical institutions failing to protect patients from physician sexual abuse, such as those of Larry Nasser, George Tyndall, Robert Hadden, Darius Paduch, and James Heaps.
