Amtrak Train Accident

It was reported on December 18th that an Amtrak train has derailed on an overpass cutting across Interstate 5 in Washington state. There have been multiple reports of casualties, including fatalities. First responders are treating the incident as a mass casualty event and motorists are being urged to stay away from the scene.

Only two weeks ago Don Anderson, the Mayor of Lakewood, urged state transportation officials of the danger of Amtrak trains traveling through his city at high rates of speed and urged safety improvements to be implemented. “Come back when there is that accident, and try to justify not putting in those safety enhancements, or you can go back now and advocate for the money to do it, because this project was never needed and endangers our citizens,” Anderson said.
